課程概述

Overview: An introduction to the basic theory and practice underlying important electroanalytical methods and electron spectroscopy as well as their applications
Text : Daniel C. Harris, Quantitative Chemical Analysis (7th Edition), W.H. Freeman and Company
Douglas A. Skoog, F. James Holler, Stanley R. Crouch, Principles of Instrumental Analysis, Thomson Books/Cole
Prerequisites: Analytical Chemistry (I),
Analytical Chemistry (II),
or equivalents

課程目標
This course provides students with an in-depth understanding about the background theory and operation principles of different analytical methods that employ electrons. The specific objectives of the course are to help students
- to become familiar with the various electroanalytical and electron beam/spectroscopic methods currently available
- to develop an understanding of the theories upon which the principles of the electroanalytical and electron beam/spectroscopic procedures are based
- to understand the correlations of chemical analysis concepts and of various controllable and measurable (potential, current, coulometric, voltametric) quantities
- to learn how different analytical methods that employ electrons are used to analyze samples
- to understand the basic strengths and limitations of each electroanalytical and electron beam/spectroscopic method
- to learn to apply chemical equilibria, stoichiometry, thermodynamics and kinetics to solve analytical problems using electroanalytical and electron beam/spectroscopic methods

課程要求
Good, participatory attendance is essential to successful mastery of course material. Although the attendance will not be monitored daily, it is suggested that you do not take this course if you cannot come to the class or do not like to take notes.

說明
1.
First Exam
30%
The exams are primarily problems and short essays, not true-false or multiple choice. They will emphasize the course objectives of understanding the fundamental theory and concepts, operation principles, design, applications, strengths, and limitations of the electroanalytical and electron methods introduced. The content of the tests include the materials discussed in your textbook as well as those taught in the class. Calculators used in the exam cannot contain any dictionary or graphic function.
2.
Second Exam
3.
Final Exam
40%
The exams are primarily problems and short essays, not true-false or multiple choice. They will emphasize the course objectives of understanding the fundamental theory and concepts, operation principles, design, applications, strengths, and limitations of the electroanalytical and electron methods introduced. The content of the tests include the materials discussed in your textbook as well as those taught in the class. The final test is a comprehensive exam and will require you to integrate the class material in a meaningful way. Calculators used in the exam cannot contain any dictionary or graphic function.
